4 months

 

Daryn turned 4 months old yesterday! We celebrated, of course, with a trip to the doctors. 

Her stats:

Weight: 9 lbs 13 oz

Length: 20.5 inches

Head: 15 cm

I was a little sad she didn't hit my 10 lb goal for her. I was so sure she would, but apparently she hasn't gained any weight in the past week! :( But she is doing so great, and right on her growth curve. She is getting stronger and smarter every day. She is so happy. She can smile, laugh occasionally, blow bubbles, and is getting good at grabbing things. 

 

She usually sleeps about 7 hours straight at night, which is great for us. What else has she been up to?

 Saturday we got all ready to watch the BYU-Utah game. 

Let's not talk about that anymore.

Sunday we moved her to crib for overnights (she has already been there for naps). It's nice to have our room back. Also on Sunday, she got to meet her new bff! 

Hi Capri!! Welcome to the world! We love you! What a sweetie. Can't believe what an awesome mom Marissa is already. A natural!

Yesterday, Daryn got her very first real bath. I'd say it was a success, although she cried for awhile after we got her out because she was cold. 

 Can't believe how quick she is growing up. Time went so much slower with just Reagan!

An update on Daryn

Daryn has been spending a lot of time at the doctor's lately. Last we she was supposed to get her harness that corrects her hip dysplasia off (she was wearing it just at night for the last month, because they thought her hips were almost fully corrected). Instead, during the ultrasound, the technician decided they didn't look quite right and so looked at them from a different angle, and released the balls of the socket were, in fact, not were they should be. In order to get a clearer picture, they sent her in for a CT scan ( :( ).

 Afterwards, they were able to determine that her hips were not only posterior, but they were also angled inward. So she's back in the harness full-time for anther month. Unfortunately, it's kind of a last-ditch effort. Her doctor thinks that surgery at 6-8 months of age is the most likely scenario at this point :(. We're praying that doesn't have to happen and the harness can fix her hips, but we have faith the Lord will look out for her either way. 

Then, she was back at Primary Children's this past Friday for clinic, where she sees all her doctors and the people involved in her care. This includes surgeons, urologists, orthopedics, physical therapists, dieticians, geneticists, neurosurgeons, cardiologists, and more. It was a very busy, but encouraging, morning. Everyone was very pleased with her progress and impressed with her happy demeanor- she was so smiley! The two big things- 1. She has to start physical therapy through Early Intervention because they are concerned she will be delayed with everything going on, and they don't want her to be set back. and 2. It turns out she also has a hole in her heart. Apparently every one is born with a hole in their heart. In most people it closes up at some point, and it usually isn't a big deal if it doesn't. But Daryn's is bigger than normal, and they are concerned it will get bigger. So they may have to do something to close it when she is a couple years older, before it becomes an issue. It's kind of a wait-and-see at this point.

Anyway, you can see this little girl has a lot on her plate. However, she is truly thriving. She has now doubled her birth weight and weighs just over 9.5 lbs. Her appetite is increasing and she is starting to sleep through the night- close to 8 hours on some nights. She is really starting to develop a happy personality. She is so smiley- especially when you take of her harness-, she is learning to blow bubbles, and today she laughed for the first time!

She brings so much light and joy to our lives. She is so so precious and I can't wait to see who she turns out to be!

Festivals, Fairies, and Fairs, Oh My!

The past week has been a busy one, so there's lots to catch up on. We welcomed the cooler weather with lots of fun! First off, Peach Days up in Brigham City on Saturday. We got caught in a rainstorm at the end, but managed to pack in a good time first.

 Carousels and giant slides. Reagan's favorites! Chiara and Asher were big fans too.

 And a new experience for Reagan- going on a ride all by herself! She started off strong...

 ...but slowly lost some steam...

 ...and spent the majority of the ride like this:

 She still had a good time, and it was pretty funny to watch as she leaned over further and further.

 Daryn was actually awake for once, and very happy until she started getting rained on while she was trying to eat. That did not go over well.

Reagan made a new friend on the dragon ride, and even let her drive.

 Sunday I woke up with a raging cold (perhaps related to getting soaked in the rain the day before?) and had to skip church, but Lance was sweet enough to make me homemade chicken noodle soup when he got home :).

 Despite being sick, we powered on through with our plans for the week. Next: the Fairy Festival on Monday! It's a beautiful fundraiser put on by one of Lance's partners- the "Jones" in Brunson, Chandler and Jones. All the girls dress up like fairies and the boys like pirates and there's games and prizes and treats and shopping. The girls all had a blast!

 Even Daryn joined in!

 Reagan was on a total sugar high by the end of the night.

After that night, we had a couple days to recover before

the Utah Sate Fair! This has always been a favorite of Lance and I's, mostly because of the food. (Hello, roasted turkey legs.)

 Reagan was thrilled to see what I think was her first real live rainbow as we were parking.

 And just as thrilled to see her first real live owl!

 Daryn was not so excited.

 We went on more rides.

Reagan wasn't a bit scared to be up high on the Ferris wheel. That girl is fearless! Thankfully, Lance was able to keep her from jumping out. After a long night of fun, we were all tucked out and ready to head home, since Lance and I both had to be up very early the next day. We both had to be in Salt Lake by 8 am- he for a CLE and I for Daryn's doctors appointment at Primary Children's. More on that coming...
