Blade at 18 months

Get ready for Blade overload! Here are some adorable pictures of this little winner from the last month.

Hard at work! He wants to be just like Daddy.

"I'm totes big enough to ride without a carseat, Mom."

We started brushing teeth and he thinks it's the greatest thing.

He loves being outside in the warm weather. Good luck with winter, kiddo!

He made best friends with this grandpa at gymnastics and "Ehhh!" at the lights to him for 30 minutes. He's really into lights on the ceiling and loves pointing them out repeatedly to anyone that catches his eye.

Most of the time at gym he is kind of a pill.

He keeps stealing the girls' (mostly) empty yogurt containers off the table and out of the trash and scraping the last bit out and it's driving me nuts.

Trying a lemon at Black Bear Diner.

He is SO into books. All day, every day. He brings them to me (or anyone really), flings them at me, climbs in my lab, grabs my hand, and puts the book in. Rinse and repeat. Sometimes I can get him to look at them on his own.

Get that finger oucha nose, boy.

He loves playing dress up, dolls, and dollhouse with (or without) his sisters.

And the rocking puppy is a newfound joy.

One day he decided Maddie's blanket was just right for him and he commandeered it.

Madelyn was... not thrilled, to say the least.

But eventually she made her peace with it and then took it back when he wasn't looking.

First day getting dropped off in nursery! It did not go well. They said he stopped crying around the 20 minute mark.

We haven't made much progress since then.

Another new bff. At least he lets other people hold him now sometimes.

He thinks he is sooo big.

Big enough to ride the scooter even (with a little help).

He is such a cheeseball!

And of course, he has recently started climbing to get what he wants. What he wanted this day was to watch Daddy killing wasps on the porch.

He likes a good adrenaline rush.

"Um... I broke the gate, Mom. Don't worry, I'll fix it."

On his 18 month bday, I tried to get some cute photos. I was halfway successful- he is happy but never holds still!

Where's Blade? Peek-a-boo!

I thought grabbing his favorite bed animal would help but it backfired.

We had a little party that night and each of the kids had a present to open.

They each got a train car!

They were a little confused until I handed them one more present, with a caboose and some pictures in it.

"Wait, what?"

The face you make when you find out you're going to be a big sister again!

The face you make when you have new trains to play with...

And the face you make when Mom gives some of them back to your sisters to take a picture.

Eventually we got a smile out of him!

And then he got the trains back and all was right again. He's going to be a great big brother (hopefully).

Sidenote: We're so excited for this little one to join us in March!

Blade had his 18 month check up the next day and he handled it pretty well. Cried for a minute when he got his shots but his first dum-dum cleared that right up!

His stats came back as perfectly average:
24 lbs (50th percentile)
32.5 inches (55th percentile)

At least he's not tiny anymore! Although he still seems small.

Some things about Blade at 18 months:
~is super obsessed with books (especially ones about animals) and reads them over and over. He also forces other people to read to him often.
~is starting to say lots of words- a few different animals at first, but it's expanding rapidly. I would estimate he knows 30+ words.
~answers "Yahh!" or "ehhh" (for no) when you ask him questions about what he wants.
~LOVES to play with his sisters, especially in the back yard
~climbs on everything, especially the kitchen table. He can't get back down, so he just cries for me until I get him.
~can point to a handful of body parts when asked
~can't run yet but waddles as fast as he can
~seperation anxiety is getting better but he still hates nursery or if I have to leave him anywhere.
~he is affectionate but not snuggly- he doesn't like to be still for more than a few seconds.
~clicking his top carseat buckles and pressing the button to shut the garage door are some of his favorite things.
~loves his dog stuffed animal (that makes noises) and would take him everywhere
~wears 18-24 month clothing mostly, besides pants- I guess his legs are short.
~size 4 diapers, size 5 shoes
~sleeps 12 hours a night (but goes through phases when he cries a lot) and naps 2.5 hours
~favorite toys are legos and anything he can dump out
~undestands what I say pretty well and obeys when he wants to
~thinks hitting people is pretty funny
~has bad excema on his legs still- it comes and goes
~is just so stinking adorable all the time that he kills me

We're so lucky to have him!
